Debate over whether to follow direct action or community organizing has become contentious. Although some agree with the combination strategy there are not enough of you to vote for this strategy. Community organizers are not adverse to protest, but they feel that CORE must work within the black community to build economic and political power. Direct actionists, think CORE should retain its original strategy of applying pressure against those who hold the levers of power. CORE chapters and CORE national are on the path toward one tactical direction or the other. Plus, CORE does not have the manpower to do both. You must choose community organization or direct action.
If you insist, then I will choose to community organize. It is a bregrudging YES!
I do not like this division. However, if I must choose, then I will go with the direct action supporters. NO to community organizing!
